Jill printing the fourteen laser engraved blocks of masonite while artist-in-residence at Saltgrass in October 2012. Upon completing the printing of ninety linear feet of Japanese mulberry paper I thought thought the project was complete. But a studio visit with colleague and artist Stefanie Dykes, brought her to suggest that I cut out all of the negative space between each hair. The process became an act of shedding, one of expelling some elements and retaining others. Ultimately, the tedious process yielded Shed.
